Does the thought of having a huge wedding party and hundreds of guests stress you out? Do you still want the wedding experience and the intimacy of a wedding but without all the extra stress? Check out how these two took their laid back, go with the flow approach to their Mount Cheaha wedding in Mount Cheaha State Park Alabama.
A + K had dreamt of being married for years but the fear of planning a wedding for everyone after a big move, buying a new house and starting new careers wasn’t something they had on their bingo card. They still wanted their wedding day to be special though and something they really enjoyed together.
Getting Ready: Timberline Glamping
After speaking with A + K, they expressed that they wanted their wedding day to be stress free but be fun and adventurous. Hiking and being outdoors is something they had loved to do since their early dating days. Their pups also had to be involved because they were their children. Luckily for them, Mount Cheaha offered glamping sites within the park and allows pups (with a fee!) for your stay. The glamping tent allowed for that “outdoor” feel without having to setup or clean! The mini-fridge, the heater/ac unit, and the fan inside paved the way for an easy getting ready moment inside the tent. They started their day with hot chocolate brewed from the Keurig (also inside the glamp) and helped one another get dressed for the wedding day.
A did her hair and makeup herself in the mirrors of the tent while K and the pups admired her. They wrote their vows on the bed and were ready for their perfect day together.
Private Vows: Lake Cheaha
After enjoying hot chocolate on the porch, A+ K and the pups were off to start their day. They opted to share private vows before family showed up because they wanted something super private. Cheaha lake offered a serene backdrop for the two of them. They drove down to the lake, hiked down the trail and settled on the point away from any other tourists. Here the two shared their vows they had wrote earlier in the day in the tent with the dogs.
The Ceremony: Bald Rock
Once their private vows were done, it was time to head to the ceremony location with their six closest family members. They wanted a wedding day that was super intimate, but saying “I Do” without their parents seemed less ideal… so they got the best of both worlds. We headed to Bald Rock inside the park for the official ceremony that her sister officiated. (In the State of Alabama, anyone can officiate you as long as you have a notary stamp for your marriage license. You can read more here on how to become legally married in Alabama.)
After signing their license and facetiming with distant family, A + K wanted to spend time with one another alone. We hung out around Bald Rock to watch the sun set on the horizon. Here, they shared their first dance on the edge and celebrated with champagne showers (aka carbonated water to leave no trace!)
Dinner & Dessert
Once the sun settled, the two ventured back to their campsite where family was waiting with dinner. The eight of them shared stories and expressed their excitement over hamburgers and hotdogs, classic camping style. The night concluded with sharing smores over the campfire and saying goodbye to family that had accompanied them on their perfect Mount Cheaha wedding.
This wedding was planned in less than a month. These two decided they wanted to spend forever together but the traditional wedding script wasn’t for them. Their Mount Cheaha wedding was the perfect combo of intimate and adventurous for them and their close family.
